For more than a year, Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have publicly played their love affair as a sneaky game of cat and mouse — teasing fans with evasive statements, shadowy rendezvous and separate cars. But the real-life Bella and Edward are finally getting tired of keeping their love for each other on the down low.
“Kristen is sick of the charade,” a source tells OK!. “At first, Kris agreed to keep their romance low-key. But she’s fed up.”
So imagine how thrilled Kristen was when Rob, 23, blew her away with a birthday surprise (she turned 20 on April 9), flying her from L.A. for a romantic weekend in Hungary, where he’s been filming the steamy period drama Bel Ami.
“Rob’s talked to everyone on set about Kristen,” another insider tells OK!. “He confided to a few people that he had something huge planned for her birthday.”
On April 10, Rob wrapped his scenes with Uma Thurman in the historic village of Tihany, just outside of Budapest, then met up with K-Stew at the Ramada Hotel in scenic Lake Balaton for a Bel Ami wrap party that marked the end of the Hungarian shoot.
“Kristen was there and Rob was drinking white wine — he was acting very shy,” someone who works on the Bel Ami set tells OK!.
The next day, the pair took a van to the Budapest Airport and caught the 6:55 p.m. flight to London, going characteristically casual with their choice of clothes — jeans and ball caps — and their preferred cuisine.
It must’ve been nice to be reunited, but while they were apart, the couple kept in contact all the time: While filming Bel Ami, Rob has phoned, texted and Skyped her constantly.
“On one video chat, he sat with hand in hair and head cocked to the side, just smiling, for minutes,” a source tells OK!. “Finally she giggled and said, ‘What?’ And he replied, ‘I just love you. I miss you so much.’ ”
